Tips for Playing

This is an awesome little strategy game. At the time of this writing, I'm 14-0. Here's what you need to know to play the game:
  • Read the in-game rules. The 'solid color hollow' rule is the one that will catch most casual players off-guard.
  • READ THE IN-GAME RULES. Know that you can choose which color of block you want to use, whether it's your turn or you're being forced to fill a solid color hollow with your opponent's blocks.
  • Capture the corners. Each piece you have on a corner counts for two of your opponent's pieces.
  • Be ready for the end game. The top four pieces are BIG. It includes three corners and the top piece, which is the only piece to count on all three sides.
  • Don't be afraid to play your opponent's color. Using these up in the 'dead zone' inside the center of the pyramid isn't a bad idea. Playing them on sides where you're currently strong also works.
  • Run your opponent out of pieces. Once you understand the 'solid color hollow' rule, you can exploit it to force your opponent out of pieces. This lets you determine how the end game plays out.

I'm fairly certain this is a second-player-wins game, despite the fact that the first player can claim two corners at the very beginning. One of these days when I've got some time, I'll run an analysis to figure it out.

The game could use a few UI changes to help the players.
  • A clear indication of whose turn it is. When playing with new players, they often don't notice when they complete a solid color hollow and don't know that they need to click again.
  • On completion of a solid color hollow, it'd be nice for wire-frame cubes to show up to alert the player that these are forced moves.
  • Selection of cube color is adequate, but it could be better. Consider a colored panel around the currently selected color instead of just the green outline. For an example of what I'm talking about, consider the panels around the characters in this image: http://www.drwpf.com/Blog/Portals/0/Images/ItemsControl/I/CharacterListBoxWithContainer.jpg

Overall, nice game.
